The Waldensian Executive Board (La Tavola Valdese), the administrative body of the Waldensian churches, is legally known as a "non-profit-making corporation of worship, teaching and charity".
The most important and fundamental event for a Christian community is the time dedicated to worship, that it is to say, the service and those activites which have a specific bearing on our faith, on its expression and deepening.
Faith is not only personal conviction, however, but involves our thinking and the community of believers has also an educational aspect; a number of the churches’ activities are therefore devoted to teaching and cultural formation.
a) Firstly, from a strictly religious point of view, with courses of catechism, formation and Sunday School
b) Secondly, with scholastic and educational institutions.
This nineteenth-century term is no longer used today, we prefer to talk about caring or special service ministries, or the New Testament diaconia, which indicates the down-to-earth, caring aspect of our faith. The Waldensian churches have always been involved in this field.
