COMMITMENT
In the area of providing assistance (or good works as it used to be called),
the Waldensian church has always maintained a high profile. Hospitals,
senior citizens' centres, orphanages and schools have always been non-confessional
and therefore open to all regardless of faith or creed. Today, the Waldensian
Synod together with its Commission
of Deacons manages hospitals in Torre Pellice, Pomaretto and Turin,
senior citizens' homes in the Valleys, in Tuscany and Sicily, as well
as other reception centres.
The choice, participation in the life of the nation by carrying out evangelical
works, which the Evangelicals made at the time of the Risorgimento, continues
to inspire the life of the Waldensian Church even today. In addition to
increasing its membership, the Church is dedicated to sending a positive
message to all Italians given the present climate of spiritual renewal
based on the Gospel. It carries out this programme by taking a stand on
issues which touch the life of the nation.
